Comprehensive Plan Process 2007-2008

The sub-committees have a meeting set for Thursday, February 7th at 7 PM at the Community Center to start on their respective parts. You can download the committee assignments and rosters below. Planning and Zoning will be looking at a future land use map including annexation areas at its February 12th meeting. That will be at 8 PM at City Hall.

December 20, 2007
We will have a kick off for the Comprehensive Plan Meetings for all Committee members and others on Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 at 7 PM at the Mitchellville Community Center. Sub-Committees will organize, set meeting times, and and go through the outline for the different parts of the plan.
November 29, 2007
We are moving up the process for working on the Comprehensive Plan to try and get it finished in 2008. More of the facilitation will be done by the members of the committees. We have already started meetings on Land Use with the Planning & Zoning Commission. We will have an organizational meeting on January 8th for all those in the committees and set up a revised calendar.
October 9, 2007
We had our town hall meeting on September 18 and have come up with underlying goals and principles. The following is our schedule for the different parts of the plan. Planning and Zoning will start with Land Use at it's November meeting.
September 4, 2007
There will be a town hall meeting on September 18th to refine and look at our goals and objectives in the wake of recent discussions regarding proposed development in the Northwest Section of the City. Please come and give your input. These goals and objectives will provide the outline as we moved forward in our planning process.
June 12, 2007
The City of Mitchellville is embarking on an important once every 20-30 year project; The drafting of a new Comprehensive Plan. The plan will address a variety of issues for the City about it's growth and development in the coming 20 years. They are broken down as follows: Economic Development, Land Use, Transportation, Utilities, Housing, Civic Facilities, and Parks, Recreation & Trails. Each of these areas will be given special attention and drafted by the people of Mitchellville. We strongly encourage the people of Mitchellville attend these meetings to have input into this important plan for Mitchellville's future.
The outline was prepared by Iowa State University and gives us a structure to go by for our plan.
Currently, we need citizens to serve on Housing and Utilities sub-committees. There is no formal application. Just contact City Administrator Jeff Horne at City Hall 967-2935. Each Committee will meet between 2-4 times. We know everyone has a busy lifestyle so we will only need the commitment of 60-90 minutes for each meeting.
The Planning & Zoning Commission will be starting into the Land Use Map and Plan in the June meeting. Committee meetings will begin in late Summer and carry into the Fall.
