Can you find the stones of our important forefathers from Mitchellville?
A few are listed below.
Here are a few hints:
The cemetery is divided into 1/3/'s by two gravel roads. The gravel road runs closest to 6th Street.
Vine Street is on the west. Jasper County Line, 120th Street is on the East.
 
Dr. T Seems: He was on e of the first doctors in town. His specialty was chronic diseases of the eye.
His grave is in the center 1/3, one row east of Thomas Mitchell's Grave, closer to the north gravel road.
 
Sam Old Field: He had the first telephone in Mitchellville (1884) which connected his jewelry store to his home.
His Grave is located in the center 1/3, one row west of Thomas Mitchell, Close to center of cemetery.
 
Charles Smith: First person buried in the new cemetery after it was platted in 1870, and fenced in 1872.
His grave is in the center of the cemetery. Stone is laying down flat.
Trivia question: Was this ground a private cemetery before Thomas Mitchell platted it?
There are stones that are dated earlier.
 
John Percy Woodward: The first air mail pilot between Omaha and Salt Lake City.
His grave is located in the north 1/3, just off the north gravel road, and 6 rows from the east.
 
EP Marmon: The first editor of the Mitchellville Index in 1882.
His grave is in the center 1/3, 8th row from east, approximately in the middle.
 
NW Cram: First Mayor of the "Incorporated Mitchellville" in 1875.
His grave is located in the 1/3/ 10 rows from the east and close to the north gravel road.
 
Charles Jones: Accredited for his accomplishments for the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railways.
There is a plaque and flowers on the west side of Main Street placed there in his honor.
His grave is located in the center 1/3, 15 rows from the east, just off the south gravel road.
 
EJ Valentine: Owner the general store in 1859. While moving the store from Mitchelltown to Mitchellville
he was said to have traded as they traveled.
His grave is located in the center 1/3, 16 rows from the east, close to the center of the cemetery.
 
Newton Kelly: One of the first mail carriers in our area.
His grave is located in the south west corner of the south1/3, 3 rows in from Vine Street, just off the south gravel road.
