Note from Polk County Emergency Management:

Polk County has received a Presidential Declaration which means FEMA will now take over in the recovery process of the flood issues.  Residents can call 1.800.621.3362 to make an application over the phone.  That application will send an inspector to the residence to look at the damage.  Once the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center Coordinator comes to town, they will request a location for the Center to be established.  We have the location identified and just waiting on the request from FEMA.  We are anticipating the DRC to be opening on Friday (8/20/10) at which time your residents can go to 1740 Garfield, Des Moines, IA to start the recovery process through FEMA.  They will need to take the reference number provided to them when they applied to the DRC.
